How long have you worked for CISS/AFCS?
I worked for 6 years as an educator at Making Connection Nursery School supporting children on the Autism Spectrum between the ages of 2.5 and 5. When the Nursery School closed, I moved on to a Resource Consultant role and have been in the position since July 2018.
Why did you choose this field?
I grew up with two children with special needs in my family, both my brother and a cousin. I always admired those I saw making a difference in the lives of these special children and found that having the privilege of getting to know these children’s individual strengths, challenges and motivations to be rewarding.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Having the opportunity to connect with children through play and shared interests. Seeing a child proud when they have accomplished something new.
What is your hobby?
I love to draw, paint and do crafts. Michaels is one of my favourite stores.
Do you have children of your own?
I have a son who is four and has just started school.
What does inclusion mean to you?
My mother once told me that Inclusion means everyone has what they need to succeed not that everyone is the same or has the same things; this has stuck with me over the years.
